DMCA Policy
How to send a copyright notice or counter-notice for material on TheTechLane.
TheTechLane is an independent technology publication based in India (https://www.thetechlane.in). We respect copyright. This page is the notice-and-takedown process we follow when a rights holder reports alleged infringement. It is modeled on the US DMCA so the steps are familiar. We are not a US-registered DMCA agent. Read it with the Copyright Policy.
1. What must not be published
Do not upload or ask us to host material that:
- Infringes someone else’s copyright
- Uses a copyrighted work without permission where permission is required
- Misrepresents ownership of another person’s work
2. How to send a notice
Email legal@thetechlane.in with the subject line “Copyright notice”. You can also use the contact form and mark it as a legal request. Incomplete notices take longer. Include all of the following:
- Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address
- A description of the copyrighted work you say is infringed
- The exact URL of the material on thetechlane.in
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner’s behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full legal name is enough for email)
3. What we do after a notice
When a complete notice arrives, we may:
- Acknowledge receipt
- Review the reported URL and the surrounding article
- Ask you or the author for more detail
- Temporarily hide the material while we review
- Remove or disable access where the claim is supported
We review each report on its facts. We aim to act on a complete notice within a few business days. Complex cases can take longer.
4. Counter-notice
If we removed or hid your work because of a copyright notice and you believe that was a mistake, email legal@thetechlane.in with the subject “Copyright counter-notice”. Include:
- Your name, address, telephone number, and email address
- The URL of the material that was removed
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification
- Consent to the jurisdiction of the courts in India for disputes about the material
- Your physical or electronic signature
We may restore the material after review. We may also share the counter-notice with the person who sent the original complaint.
5. Repeat infringers
Where someone repeatedly infringes copyright, we may:
- Warn the account
- Remove the infringing material
- Restrict publishing
- Close the account
6. False or abusive notices
Do not send a notice you know is false. We may reject unsupported claims and, where the process is abused, refuse further notices from that sender.
