Copyright Policy
Who owns writing on TheTechLane, what readers may reuse, and how to report infringement.
This Copyright Policy explains who owns writing on TheTechLane, what authors and readers may do with it, and how to report alleged infringement. It applies to https://www.thetechlane.in. For takedown notices, use the DMCA Policy.
1. Who owns the writing
Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise:
- Authors keep copyright in original work they publish on TheTechLane.
- TheTechLane does not take ownership of an author’s original work by hosting it.
- Reading or sharing a link does not give you ownership of the article.
Staff-written pieces, site design, the TheTechLane name, and our marks are owned by TheTechLane.
2. License granted to TheTechLane
By publishing on this site, the author grants TheTechLane a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:
- Host, store, display, and format the work on the site and in feeds
- Make reasonable edits for grammar, accessibility, and presentation
- Create excerpts, previews, and social cards
- Include the work in the newsletter, search index, and caches
- Archive the work so the publication keeps a public record
That license exists so we can run the publication. The author remains the copyright owner of original work.
3. Author responsibilities
Authors must have the rights needed to publish everything they submit, including:
- Prose, diagrams, screenshots, and photographs
- Code samples and configuration
- Third-party quotes and documentation excerpts
Do not publish material that:
- Copies someone else’s article or a substantial part of it without permission
- Uses copyrighted images or video without a license
- Violates a software license
- Presents another person’s work as your own
We may ask for proof of ownership or permission. If we cannot verify the rights, we may unpublish the piece.
4. Third-party material and code
Credit the source when you quote, adapt, or include someone else’s material. Code in an article may be subject to its own open-source license. Readers must follow that license when they copy or ship the code.
5. What readers may do
Unless a page says otherwise, readers may:
- Read articles on thetechlane.in
- Share the canonical URL
- Quote a short passage with attribution, where Indian fair dealing or similar law allows
- Use the work for personal, non-commercial learning
Without permission from the copyright owner, do not:
- Copy an article in full
- Republish it on another site
- Strip the byline or present it as your own
- Sell or commercially redistribute the work
6. Reporting infringement
If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, send a notice under the DMCA Policy to legal@thetechlane.in. Include the URL, a description of your work, and a statement that you are the owner or are authorized to act.
7. Repeat infringement
We may warn, unpublish work, restrict publishing, or close an account where someone repeatedly infringes copyright or ignores a valid notice.
8. Fair dealing
Nothing in this policy limits rights or exceptions under applicable copyright law, including fair dealing in India (criticism, review, reporting, research, and teaching where the law allows) and similar exceptions in other countries. You are responsible for staying within the law.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top is the current version. The new text applies when it is published.
